Lane County Adult Treatment Court Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lane County Adult Treatment Court, often referred to as\u00a0\u201cdrug court,\u201d is an intensive, court-supervised probation for\u00a0adults age 18 years and older who are charged with drug possession or a non-violent crime related to their substance use disorder. All participants must complete substance abuse treatment, but there are also many other requirements to help get people back on the right track. The program has a success rate of 39% and takes an average 21 months to complete.<\/p>\n

Many participants (even\u00a0those who do not graduate) report a variety of positive results of treatment court, including regaining custody of their children, completing their GEDs, obtaining meaningful, long-term employment, and experiencing\u00a0holidays and special events sober for the first time in years. The vast majority of graduates never see another pair of handcuffs.<\/p>\n

Public Defender Services of Lane County represents all Adult Treatment Court participants unless there is a conflict of interest. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Attorneys <\/strong>who would like to refer their clients to Adult Treatment Court (AKA drug court) must<\/u> submit a referral to PDS via e-mail so we can run a conflict check and schedule a date for Orientation (a general info session held at our office), which is mandatory for all participants. We typically conduct an Orientation every Monday at 1:15 pm. There are two parts to the Orientation: a 45 minute slide show, followed by a Q and A, and an individual meeting with the treatment court attorney to go over the required petition. Depending on the number of people who show up, Orientation lasts 2 to 4 hours<\/p>\n

Please send your referral to\u00a0treatmentcourt@lanepds.org<\/a>\u00a0 with the client\u2019s full name<\/strong>, date the client plans to attend Orientation<\/strong>, and basic information about their case.\u00a0<\/strong>(Any information is helpful, but what is critical is the deal being offered, whether it’s a conditional discharge, downward departure, etc.)<\/p>\n
