Although the legal staff from this unit may not represent soldiers in civilian court, soldiers may have their attorneys coordinate with legal staff from this unit to understand the implications of the charges pending on [the soldiers\u2019 military service.\u00a0 Phone: 503-584-3571 or (toll free) 800-452-7500<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oregon State Bar Military Assistance Panel<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osbar.org\/programs\/map\/osbmap.html\">https:\/\/www.osbar.org\/programs\/map\/osbmap.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Oregon State Bar Military Assistance Panel program is designed to address legal concerns of Oregon service members and their families immediately before, after, and during deployment. The panel provides opportunities for Oregon attorneys to receive specialized training and offer <em>pro bon<\/em>o services to service members deployed overseas. \u00a0\u00a0Initiated in 2003, by Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers, Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace P. Carson, Department of Veterans&#8217; Affairs and the OSB, the program now has over 120 volunteer attorneys.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Office of the Federal Public Defender &#8211; District of Oregon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/or.fd.org\">http:\/\/or.fd.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Public Defender provides legal defense for those who have been charged with a federal offense but cannot afford an attorney.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Veterans may still be eligible to receive VA benefits while incarcerated<\/strong>. This may include disability compensation (though lowered to 10%) and full educational benefits for those at a residential reentry center.
